Reasons for People’s Resistance to New Products

With the development of technology and science, more and more new products and especially the high-tech products appear in the market. However, the disappointing fact is that many of such products seem not to be very popular with the customers, which is a big challenge for a lot of companies. To solve this problem, we need to know the reasons for people’s resistance to these new products. There are three main reasons for this problem, difficulty to change some traditional opinions of people, too high prices of the new products and knowledge gaps for customers to overcome.

The first reason is that it is difficult to change some traditional opinions. It may take some time for them to accept some new, special products which they have never heard before. For example, Newater is such a product. When it comes to Newater, many people may relate it to waste water from home and industry. They may never want to drink the water because of their impression of the sources of this clean water. It is so difficult for customers to accept the idea though the water comes from dirty water; it is pure water now and drinkable. To make such water clean is difficult, however, to clean up people’s impression of Newater’s dirty sources is even more difficult.

The second reason is that some new products are too expensive. Inventions of new products often cost a large amount of funds and engineers’ and scientists’ hard work. It is reasonable for the companies to make high prices of such high-tech products. However, sometimes many people cannot afford such products. When mobile phones first came into the market, their high prices were the main reason why so few people bought them. As more and more mobile phones are produced, the average cost of mobile phones has decreased a lot. Now in many countries, almost every adult has his own mobile phone.

Finally, the third reason is that sometimes people may need a certain level of knowledge to use some high-tech products. After the products are being sold in the market, people need time to learn about the new products, therefore, they are able to operate such products. For instance, the computer is a product requiring people to have some computer skills to operate it. It is almost impossible for a person who never touched a computer before, is able to program in the computer on the first day he buys it. After many people know how to use computers, it has become a popular product now.

In conclusion, if a new product cannot be sold very well, it could be the result of some traditional opinions that make people not willing to accept such product. At the same time, the extremely high price is also a challenge for companies. People also need time to overcome their knowledge gap then they might be able to operate such products.
